Project Online is Retiring – October 2025

Microsoft has announced that Project Online will be retired. If you’re already using it, there’s no disruption right now — but it’s the right time to start preparing and planning your next steps.

What’s Changing

Your Options

We recommend focusing on options 1 and 2:

  1. Stay put for now
    • If you’re using Project Online today, you can continue without disruption.
    • This gives you time to review your options carefully.
  2. Migrate to Project Server
    • The most natural next step.
    • Same platform as Project Online, with additional capabilities and full feature coverage.
    • Works for organizations that want stability, control, and a proven PPM solution.
  3. Evaluate other tools (optional)
    • If you’re curious about alternatives, we provide our 160-feature assessment at no cost.
    • Only Project Server and Project Online meet all 160 criteria — but if you want to compare, you’ll have the framework.

Our Recommendations

  • Sit tight and keep using Project Online while you prepare.
  • Start looking at budgets for licensing and infrastructure.
  • Talk with your partner about their migration approach.
  • If you need expertise, we’re here to help with planning, migration, and setup.

Don’t Forget

  • Licensing: Confirm SQL, SharePoint, and Project Server if building new.
  • Costs: Hosted options often start around $1,100/month — helpful for OpEx planning.
  • Planning: Even if you don’t need to migrate right away, having a plan avoids surprises.
